Pregnancy- Third Trimester Thoughts

Getting a bigger and bigger belly by the day? Feet sore at the end of a walk around the mall? Getting winded by walking up a flight of stairs? Peeing constantly? Uncomfortable sleeping?

If you have answered yes to one of more of these questions you might be in the third trimester of pregnancy like me. I am now 34 weeks along and baby is head down and ready to pack on the fat to be ready to meet us in just over a month.

Third Trimester:

I was feeling really great until about week 31 when my back and pelvis really started to feel the pressure of all the extra weight of this little boy I am growing. Then the sleepiness of the first trimester hit me again, mostly due to bad sleep at night. Also I found myself bumping into quite a lot of things around the house and getting some nice bruises on my every growing belly.

I had heard from lots of mommy friends that this last trimester seems to be longer than the first two, and I can honestly say it has felt that way. I think the more uncomfortable you get the longer the days feel. Plus this lovely Queensland summer has been making it miserable to step outside for more than 5 minutes unless I want to be red faced and sweaty for a couple hours, plus I’m already an oven as it is. I have been camped out in the rooms with air conditioning and drinking tons of water which doesn’t help with the constant bathroom breaks.

IMG_0026.jpgJumping (well I’m only bouncing up and down) for JOY because we got the all clear this week that my placenta previa has resolved itself and I am a go for natural birth!

We were so excited to see the doctor this week because we hoped to get to see baby B’s face…of course as I said in my last post he is not a fan of having his pictures taken (which does not look good for this snap-happy mama to be) his foot and hand were in front of his face the entire time and he wouldn’t stop moving. BUUUT looks like he may have my nose which I am super pumped about because maybe he wont just look like a clone of his daddy and will get a nice blend of us both.

Can you see him in the mess of limbs and umbilical cord? I spy a cute nose and lips.

IMG_0030.jpg                                  This month I also had my baby shower surrounded by my wonderful network of Aussie women. I have been so lucky Alex had good taste in friends and that they in turn had awesome taste when it came to picking a wife because I love these girls so much. Plus I have my Canadian friend who has gone through the immigration process with me and the women I have nannied for and Alex’s cousins and Aunts. This little boy will be surrounded by amazing women that’s for sure.

DSC_0942.jpgMy mother in law and her best friend Jo threw the shower and it was amazing. This baby is so spoiled already! I am so blessed to have married into a family that is so supportive because being so far away from mine comes with its challenges and I do miss home from time to time.

In a couple weeks we will have our maternity shoot and our calendar for February is packed! We are getting to go away for a last hurrah before bub gets here and have loads of other fun stuff happening to hopefully make these last 6ish weeks go by quickly. But I am savoring the moments of laying my hands on my belly and feeling him move because it’s nearly over.

I am more excited as each day and week passes to have this baby in my arms but I know that this is the end of an era for me and Alex. It has been just the two of us adventuring together. Then adding Murphy who is always keeping us on our toes. We have done so much in the last three plus years and now thats all going to change, not that we will have less fun but it will be so different. But seeing the the smile on Alex’s face when he puts his hands on my belly and feels our son moving makes it clear that the next adventure we are about to be on as parents will be the best one yet.

We are ready for you little man…well as ready as we are ever going to be.

  • bad vision- you get some water retention during pregnancy (well most people do) and instead of finding it in swollen ankles a feet my water retention decided to take place in my eyes makes it hard to read anything that wasn’t directly in front of my face. Doc says its pretty normal and “should” go back to normal after delivery..will keep you posted on if I do indeed need some extra thick glasses after he arrives
  • easily bruising- yeah looks like I have midnight battles because I wake up with bruises all over my legs. Plus Murphy being a little jumper when I get home from being out has given me some lovely scratches
  • sleepless nights- between the multiple trips to the bathroom and the fact that little man NEVER and I mean NEVER stops moving I think I am pretty prepared for the sleepless nights of feeding in the first few weeks. Its amazing how little sleep my body seems to need these days
  • heartburn- especially when it hits you in the middle of the night making it nearly impossible to fall back asleep. I swear it feels like a fire burning through your throat!
  • nesting- the amount of times I have cleaned a room or rearranged something or gone on clothes folding spree is crazy, I think Alex is enjoying it
